Great food starts with great ingredients. At 5 Star Rated Peterstone Court they have a big advantage in that respect – their own farm with Aberdeen Angus cattle, free-range chickens, Aylesbury ducks and their own pork, too. Couple all that with the skills of head chef Iain Simpson in the kitchen and you have the recipe for one of the stand-out restaurants in the area, already picking up a wealth of awards and destined to garner many more.

The style of cooking is refined and skilled but avoids over complication. Starters might include a terrine of the aforementioned Aylesbury duck with pear and foie gras combined with a red onion marmalade, main courses might be guinea fowl with a cider sauce or a fillet of veal with pan-fried calves liver and a boudin blanc and desserts range from an assiette of raspberries to a lemon parfait with a passion fruit sorbet and a meringue tuile. There’s a well-chosen wine list and intelligent but not over-fussy service. Sunday lunches are a highlight and something of a bargain too.
