They run it in an unassuming but super-efficient way, taking real pleasure in sharing the immaculate estate with others. The farmhouse, the focal point of this substantial Vale of Glamorgan property, has been given a wow-factor makeover that’s a masterclass in high-impact interior design. The bedrooms – especially the huge Cariad suite – are comfy, classy and über-chic, detailed with those individual touches and splashes of colour that create a fizzy visual cocktail. The bathrooms, as you’d expect, are simply faultless. Across the courtyard there are studio rooms, simpler in taste but no less comfortable.
Food is served in the café/bistro, another stunning contemporary space, part rustic restyled farmhouse, part airy conservatory, with lovely views over the fertile Vale and vineyard. Yes, that’s right, there’s a proper seven-acre vineyard here producing a range of Cariad wines – which, of course, you must sample – well known in Wales and internationally You’re also welcome to follow a nature trail through Llanerch’s extensive grounds, which takes in the vineyard along with woodland, lakes and a wilderness area rich in wildlife. When you do, you won’t believe that you’re just 15 minutes from Cardiff. Ever-versatile, ever-innovative Llanerch also has a cookery school and self-catering cottages.
