The Crown at Whitebrook has long had a reputation for some of the best food in Wales, only now though has it been transformed into a venue to match. The eight bedrooms have had striking refurbishments as have the restaurant and lounge/bar areas and they now do real justice to the excellent cooking that goes on in the restaurant below.
In them, you can expect simple lines, bare wood, quality linen, flat screen televisions, power showers and the like whilst in the restaurant you can anticipate some classic French cuisine executed with a dexterity and understanding that one doesn’t often come across.
Auberge is indeed the perfect description, the Crown is tucked away in the Wye Valley (a truly wonderful area to explore) and there is a real Gallic flavour, not just to the food but to the pretty simplicity of the building and the way that cooking is the soul of the operation. The Crown isn’t that far away from the M4 corridor but once you’re there you could be in another country – France for instance.
