This is north Wales' most popular inland resort, where the River Conwy meets its three tributaries, the Llugwy, the Lledr and the Machno, and where you can take in the spectacular views of Snowdonia. With all these rivers, it’s no surprise that this is an area known for its many bridges. Pont-y-Pair (the Bridge of the Cauldron), built in 1468, is buffeted by foaming water after heavy rain. A mile or so away is the Miner's Bridge, on the road to Capel Curig, where the miners used to cross the river on a steep ladder to their work. There is also Thomas Telford's iron Waterloo Bridge built in 1815. Also worth visiting are the awesome Conwy Falls off the road to Pentrefoelas, the famous Swallow Falls and the beautiful Fairy Glen where the Conwy flows through a narrow gorge. Betws-y-Coed is situated on the picturesque Conwy Valley Railway line from Llandudno to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Hop on in the direction of Blaenau – the scenery is mind-blowing. Train spotters won’t want to miss the Conwy Valley Railway Museum with its miniature railway, shop and buffet coach restaurant. Further on, the old 14th-century church of St Michael's is one of the oldest in Wales – look out for performances by Welsh choirs on summer Sunday evenings.
