With its unique combination of Victorian style and Edwardian elegance, Llandudno is the largest holiday resort in Wales and a great place to wander. Dubbed the ‘Queen of Welsh resorts’, it stands on a peninsula jutting out into the Irish Sea between the twin headlands of the Great Orme and Little Orme. There are two superb beaches - the North Shore, backed by an imposing crescent of large Victorian hotels and a graceful pier (one of Britain’s longest). In contrast, the West shore is quieter, with miles of sandy shoreline backed by dunes, with superb panoramas westwards towards the Isle of Anglesey and Puffin Island. Inland, the shopping streets are clustered with the best upmarket and speciality shops in Wales. Llandudno was where the real Alice in Wonderland (Alice Liddell) spent her childhood summers, and in the Alice in Wonderland Centre in Trinity Square, you can venture down the rabbit hole and re-live her adventures. To really get a taste of the town, take the four-mile Victorian carriage drive around the perimeter of the Great Orme or you could take the tramway or cable car ride to the summit of the 679ft Great Orme.
