As well as colorful daytime competitions, competitors and world-renowned artists give special performances each evening. Highlights in 2008 include Elaine Page, who opens the festival, All Angels, the Choir of the World competition in which the winning choirs from the five major choral competitions compete for the Pavarotti Trophy, and the Opera Gala featuring Alfie Boe, Elin Manahan Thomas and David Kempster, which closes the event.

The programme is extensive, with a broad range of other events including a Celtic Day, Children's Day, Youth Day and Family Day. For full details, please visit the festival website. Early planning is essential for visitors - tickets for the main events are best booked in advance.

The village itself has a population of just 3000, which swells hugely during the festival - both spectators and performers are forced to squeeze themselves into all available accommodation in Llangollen and the surrounding towns and villages. A tremendous community spirit sees the locals taking in guests from all over the world.
