Founded in 1948, when local businessmen decided to bring the best of classical music to Swansea by inviting the likes of Adrian Boult, Thomas Beecham and John Barbirolli with the Hallé and the London Philharmonic Orchestras, the festival has grown over the intervening half-century to encompass two weeks every autumn.
