Banceithin epitomises the away-from-it-all tranquillity that many of us seek nowadays, in the heart of Welsh Wales between the market town of Tregaron and the pretty Cardigan Bay resort of Aberaeron.
This is a true rare hideaway, in the sense that you'll need a good map or satnav to find the place. So it's very green, then – but in more ways than one. Banceithin is exceedingly environmentally friendly too, the winner of a green tourism Gold Award. 'Our goal is to provide the highest quality holiday accommodation while minimising the impact on the environment,' say David and Philippa.
Their luxury cottages, on a 10-acre smallholding in a secluded valley, sacrifice nothing in terms of style and comfort. Hen Ffermdy, the Old Farmhouse, is a stunning conversion with gleaming white-painted stone walls, vintage Welsh wool blankets, contemporary fitted kitchen, log burner and mezzanine bedroom accessible by a spiral staircase – the ultimate romantic as well as rare hideaway. The larger Cwt Mochyn is another stylish reinvention of an old rural building, 'comfortable, spacious and beautifully decorated'.
Organic produce can be pre-ordered, and guests have access to additional facilities including a games room and storage for walking, fishing and cycling equipment. You'll want to get out and about. The magical Teifi Pools, moody Tregaron Bog, untamed Cambrian Mountains, serene Strata Florida Abbey and dolphin-friendly Cardigan Bay are all nearby.
