Barafundle Bay and Stackpole Quay

I can vaguely remember visiting Stackpole Quay as a child on holiday in Pembrokeshire so it was great to rediscover it again by chance, this time with my own children. From Stackpole Quay, that is impressive in its own right, there’s a lovely walk to what surely must be the most incredible semi-remote beach in the UK – Barafundle Bay. It reminded me of Noosa Bay in Queensland Australia, one of the best I have ever seen, but it did help that the weather in Wales on this occasion was steaming hot too! The walk is only 15 to 20 minutes and worth the short stroll to see this gem on the Welsh coastline. There were even fish swimming around us in the water and you could have been forgiven for forgetting that you are in the UK. Kids loved it, but not too happy about the walk back. Great pub and restaurant nearby called the Stackpole Inn and some tea rooms in the opposite direction (that I forget the name of) where they make real tea, in a pot with tea leaves (now that is a novelty these days!). It was the first time ever that my children had seen this obscure instrument called a tea strainer. The place feels like you have taken a step back in time to war time Britain – there were even soldiers enjoying a cream tea there from the nearby tank shooting range in Castle Martin. Quite surreal.
